In the 1950s and '60s, the American consumer electronics brands General Electric, Raytheon, Magnavox, and others increasingly turned their backs on the consumer market, choosing instead the easy money... of the perpetual war machine.
As this was going on, the Japanese, prevented by law from spending much of anything on the military--as a result of World War 2--simply saw the languishing American consumer electronics industry... and... took it.
Those American companies.. that used to innovate for the living... put their efforts instead into finding new ways to kill. It's a mistake America keeps repeating, with its 800 BILLION DOLLAR annual military budget. If you want to blow stuff up or you need guns and ammo, you can buy American. But if you want some product that's useful, or makes your life better, well that's probably going to be made somewhere else--somewhere maybe not so obsessed with war.. as the United States.
