The UK government says it must spend around £100 billion a year on debt interest — and that nothing can be done about it.

That is simply not true.

In this video, I explain why debt interest is a policy choice, not a fixed market outcome, and set out practical ways the government could reduce its costs.

The real question is not “can this be changed?” but “why is it not being changed?”
