What do physics and art conservation have in common? 🤔
More than you might think. 🎨

Physicists are using fluorescence microscopy to help reveal layers of aged varnish on historic paintings, giving conservators a clearer picture of what to remove while protecting the original masterpiece beneath. 🖼️

At King's College London, researchers are using macroscopic fluorescence lifetime imaging to measure how different materials glow after being illuminated with blue light.

The result? Greater precision when conserving our cultural heritage.

Watch Professor Klaus Suhling and Catherine Doherty explain how physics is helping preserve the world's artistic treasures. 👇
