This summer, the UK experienced record breaking heat, with the Met Office confirming it was the warmest since records began in 1884.
The Independent recently reported on relatively new build homes overheating during the warmer months. As the UK moves towards more extreme weather seasons, there is something we can all do to alleviate the effects of the heat in our buildings, without compromising comfort or sustainability.
In the video, Ben Richardson, Director, UK Physics, breaks down the key design principles that can help reduce overheating in homes across the UK.
From external shading, to effective insulation, and even to living ‘upside down’, there is much that can be done.
Discussing implementing efficient glazing, Ben said: “It needs to be the ‘Goldilocks’ of glazing – not too much, not too little, but just right so that we still get benefits from energy, daylight and connection to the outside world, without the risk of overheating.”
