Across the EU, millions of farmed animals are kept in cages, crates, and stalls.

These systems severely restrict movement and prevent animals from expressing their natural behaviours.

🐔 Hens are unable to move freely or dust bathe.
🐷 Sows are unable to turn around or build a nest before giving birth.
🐮 Calves are kept isolated during an important early stage of life.
🐇 Rabbits cannot dig or hide.
🦆 Ducks cannot swim.

In 2019, more than 1.4 million EU citizens supported the ‘End the Cage Age’ European Citizens’ Initiative, calling for an end to cages in farming. 📝

In 2021, the European Commission promised to move towards ending cages in farming.

Now, five years after that promise was made, animals are still confined to tiny cages.

This year, we expect the Commission to finally deliver and present legislative proposals that ban cages and require much better standards for the animals. Once and for all.
