From being kept illegally in a private home to starting his new life in safety. 🍀
Young lion Mero has been at FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary for over a month now, after being rescued from a life of isolation and fear in the Czechia.
Mero needs time to rest and recover from the trauma of his early life… We are currently giving him all the care he needs to heal and grow, but he still has a long way to go. Gradually, he is beginning to explore his enclosure, respond to the gentle voices of his caretakers and engage with special enrichment that stimulate his senses and encourage natural behaviour. 📦
We are incredibly proud of his bravery and progress. ✨
In the coming weeks, we will continue to monitor him closely and guide this sensitive young lion every step of the way to help him feel truly at home. 🏡

Once a victim of the ruthless wildlife trade, Tajmir was one of the lucky few whose story was rewritten. 💛
Rescued from harsh conditions in Czechia ➡️ cared for temporarily in a zoo ➡️ a cross-Europe road trip in a Big Cat Ambulance… and finally, a happy ending at FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary – his forever home. 💚
Today, Tajmir is living his best life! He explores new enrichment every day, and recently, he got a fir tree to play with. 🌲

Samba’s story has taken a beautiful turn 🐯🧡
For years, she and Kenya were forced to perform tricks no wild animal should ever be made to do. Even after Slovakia banned wild animals in circuses, the pair remained confined in a cramped circus trailer for another 1.5 years — their suffering far from over.
Then, in January 2025, her life finally changed.
Our team brought Samba to FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary, where she now has space, care, and the freedom she has always deserved. 🌿
Today, she’s no longer a performer, instead her days are filled with enrichment and discovery.

Recently, the Sudan lions were successfully relocated into their new permanent home within LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. 🌄
With careful preparation and teamwork, the relocation was smooth, safe and truly inspiring.
One by one, the lions ventured out into their vast species-appropriate enclosure, exploring their new environment, sights and sounds.

One mission. Lasting impact 🐯
Our veterinary mission in Malta is over, but its impact on big cat welfare will last.
Over the course of several days, our team worked alongside local partners to carry out health checks, sterilisation procedures, vaccinations, and support the relocation of animals into improved enclosures. Every procedure was completed successfully. 🩺💚
But this mission was about more than veterinary care. By preventing future breeding at the facility, no more big cats will become victims of the commercial trade. Every mission like this helps create a future where fewer wild animals are bred into captivity.
