We all know TI, or Texas Instruments, as the calculator company. When it comes to graphing calculators, they are the industry-dominating classrooms and colleges across the world. But, what’s even more interesting is that calculators are just one part of Texas Instruments. TI is actually a gigantic semiconductor company that’s worth $185 billion. In fact, they’re the 79th largest company in the world even beating out companies like Intel and AMD. If you’re wondering how they got so big, it’s because they were one of the first to produce silicon semiconductors and they literally invented the integrated circuit. So, TI was very much a father of the chip industry having played a crucial role in early breakthroughs. And unlike Fairchild Semiconductor which fell apart due to internal strife, TI has been a strong background player for decades - and calculators are just one part of their ginormous business.
