In Civilization 5, you, some friends, and maybe an AI or two, go up against each other in order to see who's civilization doesn't suck complete ass like modern-day Syria. Players/AI can win in Civ 5 through diplomacy, which involves either spreading your country's culture or by becoming the world leader in the United Nations. You could also just roflstomp every other country on the map with nukes and some pointed sticks you found lying on the ground.
Form alliances with your fellow players, or don't and tell them to fuck off. Really, who am I to tell you what to do? Just remember, at the end of the day, that potential teammate of yours is gonna want to win, and you're gonna be in their way eventually, so why not prepare to end them before that situation pops up?
So yeah. Welcome to Civilization 5, where everyone pretends as if they like each other, when in secret, they really want to murder each other.
