Gorgons are creatures from ancient Greek mythology, which are stories that were told by people in Greece a long, long time ago.
Gorgons were said to be three sisters named Stheno, Euryale, and the most famous of them all, Medusa. They were considered to be monstrous and scary-looking, not the kind of creatures you'd want to meet on a dark night!
Gorgons were described as having snakes instead of hair on their heads. Yes, snakes! Can you imagine waking up and finding a bunch of snakes on your head instead of your usual hair? And that's not all. It was also said that anyone who looked directly at a Gorgon would be turned to stone.
The most well-known story involving a Gorgon is the tale of Medusa and the hero Perseus. Perseus was able to defeat Medusa by using a shiny shield as a mirror, so he could see Medusa without looking directly at her.
While the stories of the Gorgons might sound a bit scary, they're just part of the fascinating world of Greek mythology. These tales helped people in ancient times to understand the world and taught them important lessons about bravery, cleverness, and the dangers of pride.
