Did you know Fairphone started out as a conflict mineral awareness campaign in 2010?
After three years of getting nowhere trying to convince phone manufacturers to help fix the problem, the people behind Fairphone decided to make a phone themselves. That's how the movement became a social enterprise. Two years later, the first Fairphone was launched.
The Congo region is one of the worst affected by the conflict mineral trade, and over the last decade, we have worked hard to do what we can to help, demanding and supporting better practices in mining, as well as increasing the demand for and supply of recycled materials. The tiny map of the Democratic Republic of Congo hidden inside every Fairphone is a nod to where we get our raw materials from and the people who get them for us.
