During the launch of the Game Gear Micro, SEGA producer, Yosuke Okunari, explicitly declared that SEGA was working on yet one more mini console.... though it was too early to reveal at the time. Yet quite a bit of time has elapsed since then, and I think we're getting very close to SEGA either making an announcement or simply letting the whole thing go.
There is reason for hope, however. On December 31st Yosuke Okunari tweeted out that he was working on new stuff for SEGA in 2022 that would be announced later in the year (in 2022). Since he's behind all the retro mini consoles, and the SEGA Ages line, there is a good chance that they will announce one last retro mini console sometime this spring, for a fall release.
Some people will still probably pine for a Dreamcast Mini, but we've already discussed, at length, why we think that will never happen.
