Body Cam Video Of Man Fighting Police And US Coast Guard After he was Caught Partying. - Florida Fish & Wildlife officers, in collaboration with USCG officers, were conducting a boating safety inspection in the downtown Tampa area. During this operation, police stopped a blue and silver pontoon boat operated by an individual who exhibited clear signs of impairment, including bloodshot, watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. When questioned, the subject admitted to having consumed three beers.
The officers, observing several indicators of impairment, requested the individual to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tasks (SFSTs), all of which were documented on body cam. The SFSTs began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, followed by Finger to Nose and Palm Pat tests, during which the subject struggled significantly. Body cam footage captured the subject hesitating, frequently missing his nose, and failing to follow instructions, revealing several clues of impairment. After attempting the final task, the subject stood abruptly and stated, “I’m done,” attempting to return to his vessel.
At this point, the officers informed the subject that he was under arrest for suspected Boating Under the Influence (BUI). Body cam footage shows the moment police informed him of his arrest, at which point the subject’s demeanor changed drastically. He immediately began resisting, pulling away from officers and physically pushing against them in an effort to evade custody. As he struggled, he struck multiple officers, including two Florida Fish & Wildlife officers and a USCG officer, with his arms. His resistance escalated, forcing the officers to use ICW techniques to control the situation. The body cam footage reveals the coordinated efforts required by all involved officers to restrain the subject safely while ensuring minimal harm to both him and the officers on scene.
Despite multiple attempts by police to de-escalate and calm the individual, he continued resisting, repeatedly pulling away and attempting to evade the officers’ grip. The use of body cam footage was instrumental in capturing the details of the altercation, including the subject’s aggression, his physical resistance, and the officers’ attempts to secure him safely. Eventually, with concerted effort, the subject was restrained and detained.
Following detainment, the subject was transported to the HCSO substation, where the body cam footage documented the reading of implied consent, which the subject explicitly refused. He also requested medical attention due to the ICW application, and EMS was dispatched to evaluate him at the substation. After receiving medical clearance, he was transported to HCSO jail and booked for Boating Under the Influence (BUI) and Resisting Arrest with Violence.
