I tried a cottonwood on cottonwood hand drill today and couldn't make it work. Not wanting to leave without an ember, I made up a quick hemlock bow drill spindle.

Questions, comments, and suggestions are always welcome.

Sometimes I can get an ember by reusing an old divot if the diameter of the spindle is larger than the one that created it. That didn't go as planned either.
