Last week Iran launched missiles at American military bases in Jordan. Yet more than one hundred Jordanian public figures, academics, and activists have signed a public letter demanding that Jordan expel American troops, abandon its partnership with Washington, stay “neutral,” and refocus on their true enemy — Israel.
Think about that for a moment. Iran is attacking Jordan, and influential Jordanians are more concerned with fighting the Jewish state than confronting the regime firing at them.
This is the reality too many in the West still refuse to face. The cries of “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” come from the same jihadi Muslim worldview. As the saying goes: “First the Saturday people, then the Sunday people.” Israel is simply first.
King Abdullah understands the American presence helps protect Jordan from both Iran and Sunni jihadi forces. But this letter reveals a deeper truth: significant currents inside Jordanian society still view Israel — not Iran — as the primary enemy.
Peace treaties alone cannot overcome an ideology that teaches hatred of Israel and the West. Israel has learned this the hard way in Gaza, southern Lebanon, and Syria. Every time jihadist forces establish themselves on our borders, we are forced to fight. Military victory is not enough. Lasting security requires permanent Israeli control, the application of sovereignty, and thriving Jewish communities that anchor the military presence. Without them, political pressure leads to retreat — and retreat invites the next war.
We cannot assume the Jordanian monarchy and its peace deal will remain stable forever. If jihadi forces ever overthrow the Hashemite kingdom, Israel’s quiet eastern border will become our next frontline. History, the original Balfour Declaration, and the Jewish people’s biblical connection to the land east of the Jordan must not be ignored.
This letter is a warning. Believe people when they tell you who their enemy is. Ignoring the ideology of jihad has never brought peace. It only postpones the day reality can no longer be denied.
Yet I remain filled with hope. The Jewish people have returned home after 2,000 years. Miracle after miracle is unfolding in our generation. God is guiding us through the process of redemption. Our responsibility is clear: strengthen our faith, strengthen our national resolve, and be ready to act with courage when history calls.
