Israel and Zionism cannot be understood without confronting a fascinating divide in Jewish history. While secular Zionists built many of the institutions that became the State of Israel, parts of Orthodox Jewish leadership in Europe fiercely opposed the Zionist movement and its secular vision.

We owe tremendous gratitude to those who physically built our Jewish state. Now our generation must take responsibility for strengthening Israel's Jewish identity, spirit and connection to our history while building its future.
