When Anime broke tradition:
Starting off we have Attack on Titan completely abandoning the 'Good vs Evil' trope
by having Eren Yeager shift from the heroic underdog to the main antagonist, beginning
his morally gray world-ending arch.
Ufotable, the studio behind Demon Slayer and Fate|Stay Night shifted away from traditional hand-drawn cells by
blending highly detailed 2D character designs with seamlessly integrated 3D environments which became a new
industry baseline.
Onto a more in-universe tradition, Dragon Ball Z broke its tradition of grueling and psychological super Saiyan
transformations by having Goten & Trunks unlock Super Saiyan effortlessly as children and then completely shattered
it by applying this to universe 6 saiyans like Caulifla in Dragon Ball Super
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure discarded its longtime martial arts breathing technique
Hamon in part 3 by introducing the life energy Stands in its place which is basically
JoJo's version of Ki
And finally we have the Pokémon anime breaking Ash Ketchum's 22-year lose streak
by winning both the Alola League and the Masters Eight Tournament to become the
World Monarch and end his reign as Pokémon's protagonist.
