Some places are special because they just look so different from everything else around them. In the Appalachians, some sort of distinct rock type usually produces this difference. This is certainly the case with Linville Gorge in the North Carolina Blue Ridge. This video talks about how rock type and a unique river process sculpted the gorge we see today.
