What’s it really like being an artist when there’s no undo button?
I’m joined by my friend Adam Grant, aka Octopanda. Years back, I first knew Adam as the vocalist of Deadly Circus Fire, and he kindly let my band Schemata Theory support them on a couple of shows, including one at Camden Underworld.
I’ve actually never had a tattoo. I’ve thought about it plenty, and I’ve got loads of friends covered in ink, but that hasn’t stopped me from being blown away by the artistry. Creating something permanent on a living human being is a pretty special kind of responsibility, and I’ve always wanted to understand what that feels like from the artist’s side.
So we’re going deep on the reality of tattooing: staying calm under pressure, communication and trust, the psychology of permanence, how artists manage perfectionism, and what people get wrong about the process.
