JavaScript is continuously evolving, with new features coming every year. Some say that it happens to fast, but everybody wishes some specific proposal would be implemented by browser right now.
What new features can we use in 2024, and what can we expect soon? What are some more long-term proposed features that will have a potential huge impact of the ecosystem? We'll go together through these questions, while learning at the same time how JavaScript gets standardized!

Im a developer who loves open source and JavaScript. I work at Igalia, where I help push the web forward, and I maintain Babel the JavaScript compiler. Im also a TC39 delegate and Ive helped developing different JavaScript proposals over the years.

There were once browsers without element inspector, CSS without border-radius, JavaScript without arrow functions. Although a world without Flexbox and Template Literals sounds scary ... I invite you to reflect on what is really the darkest time for Front-end developers. Lets ask ourselves if the times were dark when we were worried about border-radius or if we should really be worried about the current times, where a simple landing needs 800kb of JavaScript to display.")

Imagine one hot and humid day in summer. Would you expect your air-con at home has already been cooling down the air so that you feel refreshed on arrival? It would be perfect if I can turn on the air-con just 10 minutes before home! Are you to die for it? What if I can connect my air-con with Raspberry PI that runs a serverless application, which is triggered by a public cloud application? It sounds so sweet! But... life is not that easy. Id like to share my hard learning experiences while setting up this home automation system, using Raspberry PI, Azure Functions, Power Automate and Power Apps.")
