Andy Burnham is Britain’s new Prime Minister, but should drivers be worried?

His Greater Manchester record offers some cautious encouragement. He opposed congestion charging, halted the planned charging Clean Air Zone and ultimately favoured investment, vehicle-upgrade support and cleaner buses over simply billing businesses and motorists.

Then there’s the Bee Network: locally controlled buses, capped fares, trams, cycling and increasingly joined-up transport. A carrot rather than a stick.

But where will Burnham stand nationally on the ZEV mandate, the 2030 deadlines, fuel duty, road pricing, classic cars and driver choice? That remains to be seen.

What do you expect from the new PM: clearer roads or another political pile-up?
