Each year on the first Saturday in May, communities and neighborhoods come together to participate in Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, an annual campaign that works to protect homes from wildfire. It encourages property owners to take wildfire preparedness into their own hands by engaging in simple, effective home projects such as raking away leaves, pine needles, and other debris; cleaning gutters and vents; removing shrubs; and pruning back branches — especially in the area known as the home ignition zone (HIZ).

Learn more about what Wildfire Prep Day is, the steps you can take to get involved, and hear firsthand from wildfire preparedness experts and community leaders who have participated in the campaign in this video.
