Within days of Russia invaded Ukraine in late February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of a Ukrainian Foreign Legion, officially the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine, a new military formation in which foreigners could join the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fight against the Russian invasion.
