Wizards and Warriors animated fantasy documentary lore video series on GRR Martin's world of Ice and Fire continues. Previously, we have covered the story of the rise and fall of the Targaryens (youtu.be/elBPgLSVGk0) the story of the Game of Thrones before the Winds of Winter (youtu.be/7AkZoix8-BY), the rise and fall of Valyria (youtu.be/YaCIZ_Nt7SA) and the story of Dunc and Egg from the novellas (youtu.be/U1Uxivt_uCo). But what happened to Dunk and Egg after the novellas? In this video, we explore the later lives of Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), following their journey from hedge knight and squire to Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and King of Westeros. We cover Egg’s role in the Blackfyre conflicts, his unexpected rise to the Iron Throne after a string of family tragedies, and why history remembers him as Aegon the Unlikely. The video also examines his reign: his attempts to improve the lives of the smallfolk, his struggles against rebellious lords, and the personal heartbreak caused by his children defying royal marriage alliances. On Dunk’s side, we trace his rise from humble beginnings to the white cloak of the Kingsguard, including his battlefield feats and service as Egg’s most loyal protector. Finally, we dive into the Tragedy at Summerhall—the mysterious fire, the failed attempt to hatch dragons, the deaths of Aegon V and Ser Duncan, and the lasting impact this event had on Targaryen history. A tragic, legendary ending to one of Westeros’ most beloved friendships.
