No Floral Shoppe related release generates quite as much discussion as 2014's Floral Shoppe 2, released by The Darkest Future—an alias of HKE, owner of Dream Catalogue. At the time, Dream Catalogue was one of the most active and influential labels in the scene for Vaporwave and vapor-adjacent releases, this was right around the time before they slowly began to establish their signature Dreampunk identity which saw a fusion of Vaporwave meets Cyberpunk, crafted in eventual releases like 2814 and HK.

Floral Shoppe 2 functions less as a follow up to the actual Macintosh Plus album, but instead, a response to Internet Club’s New Deluxe Life alias and their release Liberated From This World from 2012, a project which pushed Vaporwave’s more ironic and fragmentented tendencies to the extreme, dividing listeners between those who found it profound and meaningful with those who found it unlistenable. HKE saw this and pushed the concept even further, utilizing the beloved Floral Shoppe identity as something fans would immediately have a connection to and repurposing it as something even more intentionally random. Each track on the album is named “Untitled”, further leaning into its meaningless substance.
