Today we are taking a look at Critical Role's new tabletop RPG - Candela Obscura. Both episode 1 of their actual play series and the rules themselves as the team at Darrington Press have released a quickstart guide for Candela Obscura, ahead of its full core rulebook release later this year.
Candela Obscura is based on Critical Role's new Illuminated Worlds game system. Whereas games like D&D favour combat mechanics, Illuminated Worlds is based around investigation and narrative exploration. And looking over the Candela Obscura rules themself it's hard not to see similarities to horror RPGs like Call of Cthulhu and uses a d6 dice system familiar to anyone who has ever played Blades in the Dark.
