Okay, Mr. Raynor, I've got a BIG question(s) (for me).
This may be a long comment, so I apologize in advance🙂
I am a self-taught artist. I started drawing well around 9-10 years old which included charcoal. I've been a watercolorist and pastelist (soft pastel) for the last 28 years. I am and have been a silk painter for the last 9.5 years. As a silk painter I create fine art on silk (wildlife, horses, fowl/avian, etc).
My art style is realism. Art has always been very stressful to me. I worked as a paramedic, 911/Police/Fire Dispatcher and Emergency Medical Dispatcher and these were less stressful to me than art.
I have done portraits of children and pets in both watercolor and pastel. I've created 6 wall murals (with acrylics) and seafood tile trivets (with glazes and being fired in a kiln).
All of this time I have created art to make money. I've always disliked abstract art, non-representational art and "art" that is a lone toilet (and pieces like it)🤨. I call that ridiculous and I apologize if you find offense in it. To me, those questionable artist's did not put the work or time into it. The original artist's who did the original mockups for the companies did the work...the questionable artists just sampled the original artists work...😏
Here is where the problem starts. I was asked a question a few years back. I was not and still am not able to answer it. The question was, "If you could create anything you want - creating art for yourself- what would you create?"😱Whaaaahhh?
For a long time I've always had a specific vision/dream:
I am in a room that has canvas all around me. I'm in the middle and I've got 2 large paintbrushes, 1 in each hand. I have large buckets of paints that are thin and runny. I dip the paintbrushes in the paint and just go crazy letting the paint go where it wants! it looks and feels sooooooo good, lol! 😅
For the last 5 months I've been drawn to abstract art, not the non-representational or the ridiculous, but the art that looks like things we know and recognize.
I have no idea what art I would do, I just know that whatever I'd do, I'd do it on a large scale for me. 🙂
I hear artist's say, "Well, I just let it lead me and I got here. I don't know where I'll end up when I do it tomorrow. I just let it go". How?!!?! How can you just not make plans? Not worry about using all of your supplies up on trash? How can you not worry about creating something viable?!?! And WHAT are you following??? At 52yo, am I even a real artist? Help!!!
