Precipitate is a solid that forms and separates from a solution during a chemical reaction, usually when two aqueous solutions are mixed and an insoluble compound is produced

Supernate- The clear liquid remaining above the precipitate
Suspension- A mixture where precipitate particles are dispersed but not settled
What Causes a Precipitate to Form?
Precipitation Reaction: When two soluble ionic compounds react in solution and form an insoluble product.
Solubility Limit Exceeded: If the concentration of a solute surpasses its solubility, it may crystallize out.
Environmental Changes: Temperature, pH, or solvent changes can reduce solubility and trigger precipitation.
This can occur from the evaporation of solvent, increasing concentration
Example of a Precipitation Reaction
Mixing silver nitrate (AgNO₃) and sodium chloride (NaCl) in water:
AgNO3(aq)+NaCl(aq)→AgCl(s)+NaNO3(aq)
AgCl is the precipitate, a white solid that forms and settles out of the solution
