Years ago, Priscilla Dunstan went on Oprah and shared something pretty fascinating:
Newborn babies have different cries for different needs.
Hungry. Tired. Needs to burp. Gas. Discomfort.
That last one is where things get REALLY interesting for me. 👆
Because babies can feel discomfort before or while they pee or poop.
And when you start paying attention, you might notice it.
A certain cry. Squirming. Grunting. A funny little face they make. Suddenly getting fussy for seemingly no reason.
These can ALL be clues that your baby needs to eliminate.
This is part of what we do with elimination communication.
We learn to pay attention to our babies in a way that our diapering culture doesn't really teach us to do.
And no, you don't have to perfectly “decode” every cry. 😂
You don't have to catch every pee or poop either. You just start noticing.
**Because your baby has been communicating with you since Day 1...long before they can talk.**
