When The Parasite first appears in Feeding Time, it looks like the beginning of a tragedy. A desperate man suffers a terrible accident, all the hallmarks of a life ruined in an instant. It’s the same setup that created some of the most sympathetic villains in Batman: The Animated Series.
But this time, the story goes in a different direction.
Instead of mourning his lost humanity, Rudy Jones embraces his power, and what follows is one of the most disturbing transformations in Superman: The Animated Series. This is the story of a man whose power reveals exactly who he always wanted to be.
In this video, I explore how Feeding Time deliberately rejects the tragic villain formula made famous by stories like Feat of Clay, why Parasite stands as the opposite of Toyman, and how the episode uses unsettling imagery to transform sympathy into dread.
