While we await our trial date to be set in the High Court of Justice, here is an 18-minute video update on Rochdale Council’s plan for our community gardens at Hopwood Hall Estate:
Community Gardens Destroyed by Council After Residents Locked Out for 16 Months
An award-winning community garden at the estate of Hopwood Hall once thrived thanks to years of dedication from volunteers and heritage experts. But after residents were suddenly locked out of the estate, everything changed.
For over a year the gates remained closed. The community that had cared for the gardens was unable to return, maintain them, or protect what had been built through years of effort.
Today, the once-beautiful gardens have fallen back into rack and ruin.
In this video we document what has happened since the lockout and examine the decisions that led to a thriving community project being left to decline. What was once an award-winning example of community restoration now raises serious questions about the future of this historic estate and the projects connected to it.
This is part of our ongoing investigation into decisions affecting local heritage and community projects around Hopwood Hall.
