In this video, I present examples of good and "meh" speaker directivity, illustrating how sound dispersion impacts the overall audio quality. Using this, we discuss some huge misconceptions and misunderstandings about room treatment. Whether to use acoustic panels, absorption, diffusion, what late vs early reflections are and why they matter. This is only the tip of the iceberg and there are many aspects to consider. However, this is the first step toward understanding your room and how to get the best sound from it with your speakers. This is laying the groundwork for future videos regarding room treatment

It's worth mentioning that I did my best to take the available science, mixed with my own personal experience, and boil it down to a manageable video. Still, clocked in at nearly 27 minutes. That was after I did some intense editing. And I only talked about sidewall absorption. Just goes to show how - despite a rather simple 10,000 foot perspective this can be made into - it's still not an easy thing to understand. Evidenced by the fact that I see way too many paid professionals who don't have any understanding about the relationship between the room and the acoustic treatment they're using. Many just fling stuff up on the walls and call it a day and have zero knowledge of the speaker's actual performance nor the implications of their work.
