It's a simple way to get a full readout and recommendations that could help with diagnosis and repair. Technically speaking, OBD2 fault code P0101 indicates mass air flow sensor circuit or performance malfunction. In practical terms, this means that the output of your mass air flow sensor or MAF sensor is not within its normal range. The causes for this code can have to do directly with the mass air flow sensor, barometric pressure sensor, outdated powertrain control module software, or a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake system. Aside from a check engine light, you may notice performance problems, black smoke from your tailpipe, or poor fuel economy. Whether you notice any symptoms or not, it is not recommended that you drive a vehicle with this code until the problem is diagnosed. Your vehicle may still run, but driving has the potential to make the problem worse or cause damage to other systems. Since the cause of this code can vary from one vehicle to the next, we recommend starting with an O'Reilly Vera scan report.
