Because of the great interest in this subject, I thought it might be productive to discuss the biblical passages in question. There are only a handful (not a surprise) and none of them are clear that anyone actually sacrificed children! I will bring in a few nuggets from the Hebrew text in this discussion.
Biblical references to "molech": Leviticus 18:21, 20:1-5; 2 Kings 23:10; Jeremiah 32:35.
Biblical references to "tophet": Jeremiah 7:31-32, 19:1-14, 32:35.
I will be relying upon the work of Dr Dewrell (_Child Sacrifice in Ancient Israel_) and Dr Runions and her contributions to Story Time a few weeks ago, as well as to an article or two obtained through Academia.edu.
