I am pleased to welcome Dr. Matthew Monger to "Story Time!" to hear a bit of his story, to talk about the personal, literary, and cultural influences that helped lead him to the work that he is doing. You may know of his channel, "The Bible was Written Backwards," where he talks about the processes involved in giving us these ancient texts and collections.
Much of his work is what we call "reception history" oriented. This is incredibly interesting, and detailed, work - how did a biblical idea or character end up being handled quite differently in later communities than what the original context suggests? (This is what you call the process of looking at how Mary Magdalene "became" a sex worker in the early church tradition, for instance.)
His current work is looking into the names of the women who belonged to the "patriarchs" - their reception history. I am eager to hear what his diligent work will show us!
