A device-bound passkey is a type of passkey that is, well… bound to a single device. Think of security keys like a Yubikey, these are typically device-bound because your credentials are only available in the key and not on the cloud.Â
Device-bound passkeys are considered to be more secure than synced passkeys because you literally have your credential with you, the private key never leaves the device, whereas a synced passkey might have the private key stored in the cloud, but both synced and device-bound passkeys are secure and phishing-resistant.
