Here's another news segment about the kiddos being expelled from school and Kate going on the Today show.
It sounds to be like the kids weren't actually expelled, but that the school wasn't going to let things keep going the way they were. I hope Kate was on top of recognizing the needs and set up the tutors and all, but I suspect the school would have been the ones to make the recommendations. Who knows though. And I will say that I used to take care of a little boy who was expelled from kindergarten. It happens. His parents were way out of touch and let him do anything he wanted. So when it came time to sit still in school or be told what to do, he would wander or not cooperate. His final straw was when he refused to do anything, hit the teacher then crawled under the table.
I hear a lot of people point out that the Gosselin kids are playing, not working. I find that mostly to be true. They may get direction on what to do, or fed certain lines here and there but for the most part you can't script the random play. TLC arranges the activities, and has the kids sit down for interviews, but I think for the most part that it's fun for them. They may feel differently about it when they're older.
I also hear a lot of people point out that Kate wouldn't be able to provide for her kids as a nurse. It's true that if she stayed working there there just wouldn't be the income to do the things she wanted to do and the kids would be in daycare. Is that horrible? Many families manage every year with meager incomes and large families. If you had the opportunity to get money for playing with your kids wouldn't you? I think that they started off with a great plan and the opportunity to provide for their kids. But I think they took it too far by filming waaaay too much and becoming dependent on the income for an extravagant lifestyle. Vacations are nice, nannies personal trainers bodyguards chefs groundskeepers and tutors are nice. It's nice to have stuff. But there's more to life. I think Kate took it too far and places too much value on material items. Things have changed for the kids privacy. They should have kept the filming down, and lived moderately - they could adequately provide for the kids without living in a mansion. There is still a lot of money and if they lived a more modest existance they could get by without needing a huge income to cover all those things. I guess it all comes down to what you value in life... I personally like celebrating holidays with friends & family and saving up all year for a little vacation. But maybe that's just me.
