Wharram Percy is well enough known as Medieval village, cleared for sheep by the kind landlords of the day. It is set in an interesting valley called Deep Dale, which is an Ice Age stream outwash channel. The Wolds were not ice covered during the last Devensian glaciation, but they did have rather larger water flows: now Deep Dale is a dry valley, with what seems to be a spring emerging at the village pond.
