In this video, I am finally back on the trail, walking the final leg of the Norfolk Coast Path. A very wet day and soaked to the skin, I make my way along the coastline, passing hundreds of Grey Seals gathered on the beach, through the sand dunes dotted with wartime bunkers and defences and finally past the popular seaside villages of Winterton, Scratby and Hemsby.
Cold, wet and weary and hungry, I eventually find a place at the back of the beach to set up my tent and take refuge from the weather - what a day! Some hot food inside me and I was ready to climb into my sleeping and get warm - the only option to dry out my wet clothing was to sleep in them - not a nice prospect, but at least they’ll be dry by morning.
Despite the weather, it was a fantastic walk - some of this stretch feels very wild - the dunes and sea to one side and stunted birch woodland to the other with the path finding through the rough ground between. The seals were also a huge highlight - gathered in large numbers - adults on the beach and their pups dotted along the sea defences and amongst the dunes.
In part two, I continue south, towards the busy seaside town of Great Yarmouth and beyond to the end of the trail at Hopton. And thankfully, much better weather!
