A still image and video compilation showing some before, during and after views at West Hampstead North London Line / London Overground railway station during major improvements / upgrade works to increase passenger capacity.

The most important parts of the works were to widen the platforms and installing lifts so that they are accessible to all.

The project also included building a brand new station building, footbridge over the tracks, stairways and passageways - which have proven to be of mixed benefit because the new stairways are now alongside the middle of the train whereas previously they were directly connected to the (old) station building and alongside the end of the train that was very close to the roadway above.

The new station building only has self-service ticket machines - it was built without a staffed ticket office. However changed plans (following passenger complaints) mean that a staffed ticket office will be required, although it will only open at the busiest times of day.

The location of the new stairways results in an increased walking distance between the street and the train - there is a saying 'first impressions count' and the first time I used the new platform access I missed my train - previously I would have caught that train with ease! What made the situation especially memorable was that the service was disrupted and as a result I had to wait 25 minutes for the next train. Since then the increased walking distance has caused me to miss trains (whilst walking between the ticket gates and the platforms) on multiple occasions, although fortunately without long waits for the next train.
