A trip to West Chicago was in order due to the LPJ02, which features both remaining C&NW's, is finally running at reasonable hours. It departed Proviso at 9:25 AM, and arrived to West Chicago no later than 11:45. Not sure what the delay was, but the train inbetween were neat, for UP anyway.
Train 1: I heard Turner Junction talking to a 5984. I got excited thinking that it would be a CN SD60F leading a train down The J. Turns out it was a UP, but atleast it's something on the CN. UP 5984 leads a coal drag south down the CN main toward Joliet.
Train 2: Metra inbound, with a cool CNW/Metra bi-lev.
Train 3: UP 6648 takes off with coal loads on the UP. This made me nervous, since the LPJ02 runs wrong main from Winfield to West Chicago to get into the yard.
Train 4: Finally, CNW 8646 arrives slowly progressing through a lunar indication. Mind the locals... Does anyone know whats going on with C&NW 8701?
Train 5: I wanted to go to Spaulding to check out of N21 was sitting on the siding as it was the weekend before, but due to all the insane traffic and lane closures on 59 I had to get off, and take side streets. I get on some road that I thought would lead me far enough west, and once it crossed the J tracks I look at the wayside and see that it's a high green, so a quick look to the right, "GAH!" There is CN M342 flying down the main. Signals turned on right as my car cleared the crossing.
Scene 6: Thank you Metra! M342 had to sit at Hawthorne and wait for Metra to clear Turner Junction. This gave me enough time to set up and get a last shot of this guy.
