As a result of global warming the Earth’s snow and ice cover is declining at a dramatic pace. Melting of snow and ice affects global climate through a series of feedbacks. This poses a serious threat to ecosystems and water resources across the globe. The Icelandic Met Office along with WMO and other partners is hosting an international symposium on ice, snow and water in a warming world. The conference will bring together leading scientists who will present latest results from research on components of the Earth´s cryosphere, which are key indicators of climate change: Glaciers, ice sheets, sea ice, permafrost, lake ice and river ice.
