I wanted to get back to and tie together some other elements of working with The Foolscap Method.
I mentioned how The Foolscap Method helps us connect details and here I want to go into some specifics.
Let’s say you know you want to write a western, so now you have a Genre right? But you’re not sure of the Setting. If it’s a western you know the setting will probably have to be some place that is beyond the law.
Or, let’s say you have dreamed up this setting, totally lawless, but you’re unsure of the genre, you can look at the setting and think perhaps this is a Western. (Remember my book “A Man At Arms” was a “western) – all western genres don’t have to be Clint Eastwood style.)
Using ROCKY again as an example. We know the Hero and Villain clash in the Climax. We know the Inciting Incident is when Rocky accepts the offer to fight Apollo Creed. We know the Climax is embedded in the Inciting Incident so we know the Climax is going to be when Rocky fight Apollo Creed.
