Wec Le Mans C64 by Ocean, played from Tape
So my thoughts going into this were "it looks kind of ugly, but it can't be worse than Chase HQ". I was wrong. This is significantly worse than Chase HQ. I should note, that the first two games I played, I didn't realise there was a high gear - that's totally on me, I did find it the third game, and got a lot further then, obviously. But make no mistake, high gear or not, this game is bad. The car physics do not resemble, well, anything fun at all - they're neither realistic or arcade feeling. The track graphics use raster effects/sprites to draw the road and sides, which should be smooth, but of course is not... at least ChaseHQ has an excuse for its piss poor speed, in that its drawing a full bitmap display. This is just sheer imcompetence from end to end, and is honestly one of the worst racing games I've ever played.
Chase HQ feels like a fuck up, like they wanted to make a good game, but just fucked it up and ended up porting spectrum graphics routines out of desperation. Wec... feels like they didn't even try.
