La Rotonde, at the bottom of the Cours Mirabeau is a monumental fountain, roundabout and major landmark of Aix-en-Provence. It serves as a roundabout, a meeting point, a photo spot, and a convenient starting point for exploring Old Aix.
Some people say "La Fontaine de la Rotonde," others simply "La Rotonde," "Rotonde Aix-en-Provence," or "Rotonde roundabout." In all cases, the main goal is to locate this major urban landmark at the bottom of the Cours Mirabeau.

The most imposing fountain in Aix-en-Provence is probably the Rotunda fountain.
Its construction in 1860 marked a turning point, not only were its dimensions exceptional for this city but it was also the first fountain to have a cast iron basin.
At 12 meters high and 32 meters wide, the fountain shows, above all, the wealth and genius of the city. Aix has been the water capital of the region since the Roman period. It has a total of 23 fountains!
The Rotonde fountain is decorated at the top with 3 sculptures of women, "the 3 Graces". Their clothing and postures point to a traditional activity of Aix en Provence.
