Berneta Esaw doesn’t consider herself a caregiver to her 105-year-old mother. She feels more like they take care of each other. Esaw believes in allowing her mother to do as much as possible by herself before stepping in to lend a hand.

This interview is part of the Detroit PBS series, "Caregiving Conversations," highlighting the experiences of caregivers.

Watch "One Detroit" Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. ET and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. ET on Detroit PBS (Channel 56). Stream "One Detroit" on-demand on the PBS App, YouTube TV, Hulu, and more.
