The night before he was crucified as the Lamb of God, Jesus shared a final Passover with his disciples. With just a few words, he transformed a meal rooted in Israel's deliverance from Egypt into one that pointed to a far greater deliverance from sin. The apostle Paul recounted that night in his letter to the Corinthians. “The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, 'This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.'” (1 Corinthians 11:23–25)

Each time we share the Lord's supper, the physical elements of the bread and cup help us remember not only Jesus' sacrifice for us, but what it accomplished: forgiveness and restoration. And even as we experience his presence by faith now, we look forward to the day Christ returns, when forever we'll feast at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
