Excerpt from ‘Karl Malones standing offer to knuckle up with Kobe Bryant: If something’s got to go down, I’m not playing fair’ article by Virgil Villanueva:
“Hey, this is what I’d say to you, Malone continued. I don’t have a problem. People say whatever they want to say, and that’s great. I’m 6-9, 272, to be exact: I’m not hard to find. I don’t want no trouble. But if something’s got to go down, I’m not playing fair. [If] we’ve got to get down, then we’ve got to get down. I’m just telling you.’’
Amid the heat of the drama, Bryant was asked for his thoughts on the matter. It was a big issue, given that they were teammates and legitimate title contenders. While Malone was on the tail-end of his career, he has still seen a critical piece of the puzzle.
Bryant was asked if he and Malone would ever mend their relationship.
Not on a personal relationship,” Bryant started. “I mean when all that stuff happened to me, we kept our mouths shut. It is what it is. I mean you let him and his family deal with that situation or whatever. And we just kept our mouth shut and I just came here to work the next day, just doing what we have to do. I didnt tell anybody about it because its nobodys business. If Mitch and Buss felt like it was right for the team for him to come back and play for us, then I just have to be a bigger man and just accept him on a business level as far as being a teammate and embrace him here in this organization.

Excerpt from ‘I HAVE TO FULFILL THIS MANS PROPHECY: KOBE IS STILL INSPIRING KLAY THOMPSON’ article by Melissa Rohlin:
Thompson distinctly remembers how he first felt when the Lakers legend — who is considered the embodiment of a stone-cold killer on the court — used those words to describe him and Steph Curry after an ESPN reporter asked him which players have a Kobe-like instinct in 2016.
I was elated, Thompson told FOX Sports earlier this month. I was just really excited because I just really idolized him growing up, especially growing up down there [in Orange County]. Everything I try to do on a basketball court, I try to emulate him. I just really loved his work ethic and style of play. For him to say that just made me feel really good about myself.
A few years later, Bryants words went from being highly flattering to becoming a crucial motivational tool.
Before Thompson did painful rehab exercises, hed watch that video. Before hed lift weights, hed watch that video. When he was overcome by mental anguish, hed watch that video.
When asked recently what those words meant to him, Thompson had a difficult time summing it up.
It means so much, its hard to even put into words, he said. Kobes not the guy who just hands out compliments like that, so, for me to gain his respect, it meant everything to me. It inspired me to keep going and never be satisfied, just like he was.
