A good instructor can help you learn how to drift faster! We did a drift school to help our local guys learn the basics and level up. Since I was instructing I wasn't as free to shoot footage as usual but I was able to capture the gist of the experience for the guys.
We had a range of beginner drivers, from those who had never drifted at all to those who have attended a couple of our drift day events.
We started the day with a quick "warm up" through a military obstacle course (because the guys are wild men haha) and then got on track, beginning with drift donuts around a single cone to begin learning the g-forces and feel for balancing a car in drift. Next, we moved them to figure 8 drifts to get a feel for weight transfer and how to transition. Finally, we finished out the day by building a small "M" shaped course to hot-lap, further honing transitions at different speeds and letting the guys begin working on line control, proximity and experimenting with using the foot brake while drifting.
By the end of the drift school, every had shown considerable progress and was happy with their results: we had a blast! I'm always happy to have an opportunity to give back to the community and share my experiences with cars :)
