This Halloween Pat decided to go big, two feet of Paper Mache big. Meet our false widow spider, inspired by Steatoda borealis. Creepy enough to make your skin crawl, but friendly enough for indoor display.
In this video, we’ll walk you through how Patrick built the body using a beach ball armature, sculpted the head from foam and clay, and created detailed legs using EVA foam, wire, and a lot of patience. There’s painting, sanding, and a fair bit of chaos along the way, but that’s part of the fun.

Newspaper, paper bags
Expanding from spray
Scrap wood

10. Gauge sculpture wire.
EVA foam dowels
Air-Dry foam clay
Sculpey III
Gray filler primer (you can also use Gesso)
Picture frame mounting Brackets
Sponge

Burnt sienna
Mars
White
📝 NOTES:
Our spider friend was not intended for outdoor display so we did not weather it.  so if you are planning on taking your spider outside and make sure you weatherproof it first.
