This was only a memory until I found the video tonight while trying to make space on my phone. I was at KPFA in Berkeley/San Francisco a short time before this video was taken. We were working with Pacifica's KPFA. The General Manager sent an email sharing that WBAI in New York had just laid off 19 of their staff of 23. My friend Andrew was about to launch a 30 Day Pledge with the two remaining on air staff and few volunteers.

I told Alice Ferris, (the founder of GoalBusters) that I knew what I wanted for my 50th birthday. She looked me in the eye and said "…a ticket to New York." I replied, "yes."

It was one of the greatest weeks of my life. I did something completely irrational, but I did it because it was important. I did it to help a friend and to fight for progressive public radio.

Pick your fight. What is important to you? How will you invest in what is meaningful? How will you help someone who thinks they are alone?
